Which of the three states of matter has the highest density? A:solid B:liquid C:gas

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solid... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANK YOU IM SORRY I COULDNT ANSWERE YOURS I STINK IN THIS SUBJECT :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol its okay i suck in it too i just so happen to know the answer to yours. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

HAHA AWW YOUR TO SWEET THANKX HUN I REALLY APPRECIATE IT GOOD LUCK I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP U UGHHH I HATE PHYSICS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

its not always the case i guess, for example. ice is solid, but it is less denser than the liquid water.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

TRUE LOL BTW ARE YOU BY ANY CHANCE GOOD IN PHYSICS :( I NEED HELP LIKE LOTS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solid has the highest density. Because the inter-molecular force between them is higher and the molecules are placed very close to each other. We heat the solid, the volume increases, mass remains the same, hence density decreases. As density is inversely proportional to the volume(density=mass/volume).In the reverse way, when we cool down, the density increases as volume decreases. But water shows anomalous behavior, When we cool down water, its volume decreases and density increases till 4 degree Celsius. but if we keep on cooling it, then the volume again starts increasing and therefore density decreases, This is the reason why ice can float on water. This is called The Anomalous Behavior of Water.|dw:1368114612490:dw|
