Identify the resulting probability as theoretical or experimental. One-half of the people in a chess club are adults 21 years old or older. The other half are younger. What is the probability that a club member chosen at random will be under 21 years old

hartnn (hartnn):

probability = number of favorable events/ total number of events. if half of the ppl are younger than 21 yeras of age then, those are your number favorable events.

whats ?

hartnn (hartnn):

what is your doubt exactly ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im just confused on everything

hartnn (hartnn):

see, when half of the class are below 21 years of age, say there are 100 people in class then 50 are below 21 years of age, right ? now probability = number of favorable events/ total number of events. we want probability of member being younger than 21 years so, number of favorable events = 50 total number of events = 100 any doubts here ? read carefully...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yh now i understand sorry

hartnn (hartnn):

i am glad that you understood :) so your final probability will be 50/100 = 1/2 or 0.5 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correction it would be a theoreticail probabilty 50/100 cuz its not expermental

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, both/all probability here will be 1/2 or 0.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
