Potential energy is the amount of energy stored in an object. Kinetic energy is the energy that an object has due to its motion. Gravity converts potential energy into kinetic energy as an object falls. Friction can decrease the kinetic energy an object has. Picture sliding a block down a smooth ramp. How would friction affect this block as it slid? Write your answer as a hypothesis in the form “If friction is increased, then the amount of potential energy that becomes kinetic energy . . .”
