Help! I need to find the area of this figure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to know 2 things: 1) The formula for the area of a trapezoid 2) The formula for the area of a triangle. All the necessary dimensions are given. You just need the formulas.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know the formulas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Triangle A=1/2 bh Trapezoid A= 1/2 (b1+ b2) * h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct! So can you rewrite those 2 formulas with the proper values taken from your diagram?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Am I adding the area of the trapezoid with the area of the triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, once you find them. :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll give you a freebie: Area of a triangle: A = 1/2*B*H A = 1/2*12*13.42 Can you do the same for the trapezoid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A= 1/2 (11.75 + 18) * 6.12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

RIGHT!!!! :-) So the triangular A + trapezoidal A is your answer! Can you solve them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the trapezoid I got 91.035 and for the triangle I got 80.52

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right again!!! Just add'em together, and you have the area of the entire figure!! :-)

Thank you! :-)
