A homozygote has two of the same forms of a certain gene. The genes are inherited from both parents.

Example: A child receives both dominant genes for a disease. (DD)
If the child receives a dominant and recessive, it would be Dd, which is heterozygous.
If the child receives both recessive genes for a disease, it would be dd, which is also homozygous.
