Which statement is true regarding radioactive particles subjected to an electric field? A) alpha rays would be deflected toward a negative source B) beta rays would be deflected toward a positive source C) gamma radiation would not be deflected toward either a negative or positive source D) all of the above statements are correct Is it D?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yes it's D. you do know what each of particles is, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, alpha rays are like helium atoms (4/2 He), beta rays are basically electrons (B-) and gammy rays (Y) are photons (high energy electromagnetic radiation).

I know all about the basics of this stuff, but for whatever odd reason, I'm given exams with questions on them that aren't covered in the course. I'm home schooled, so I can't directly ask a teacher what the question means or anything. It's very frustrating.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

good stuff. well, you gotta start somewhere, plus there's a ton of people on this site who can answer your questions, I for one. I do think it'd be frustrating to be home schooled, theres so much ambiguity in questions sometimes.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you get a medal for knowing stuff

Thank you :) I like this site. I actually learn stuff instead of people just throwing the answers out there. Kinda like being in class. XD I appreciate all of your help so far

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no problem! and it's good you're looking to learn the stuff rather than just getting answers mindlessly, like some people on this site. haha yeah this site is good, tons of people here who know what they're talking about. chemistry is my favourite thing, so if you need help just ask! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks :D Chemistry is probably my least favorite thing unfortunately :/ I don't know why, but it just doesn't click for me. Literature and Creative Writing are my strong subjects, but I've accepted the fact that I'll just never understand math or science.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

haha it's funny how different people's brains work. It's completely the opposite for me, i get frustrated with writing anything thats not science based lol Can't have both, i guess !
