How are modern pandemics different from the pandemics of the past? Medieval pandemics were more contagious. Modern pandemics can spread globally more rapidly. Advances in science have basically eliminated them. Modern pandemics are easier to keep isolated.

Pandemics themselves have not changed. What has changed is the human response to them and the knowledge and technology available to deal with the effects of them.

We have faster communication to spread advice about the situation and a better understanding of how disease is spread, meaning we are able to take better precautions, as well as more advanced treatments.
