OpenStudy (anonymous):

Based on knowledge of solubility and temperature, why do hydrothermal minerals require a source of very hot water?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

hm i would say that the intermolecular forces holding adjacent particles of the minerals together are too strong to be broken by water with lower kinetic energy/temperature.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

hot water has enough energy to dissociate the particles into smaller bits until they're small enough to not be seen.
