A pizza shop has 18 different toppings to choose from. Today?s special comes with a choice of 5 toppings, plus a choice of 3 types of crust: thin crust, regular, and deep dish crust. How many different combinations can be made with 5 toppings and 3 crusts?

OpenStudy (hunus):

Let's say you choose your crust first; You choose the first option, then you have to choose a topping. You could choose topping one two or three So you have crust 1 topping 1 crust 1 topping 2 crust 1 topping 3 You 'could' have chose crust 2. If you had your options would've been crust 2 topping 1 crust 2 topping 2 crust 2 topping 3 and finally if you chose the 3rd crust option, your choices would be crust 3 topping 1 crust 3 topping 2 crust 3 topping 3 So you have 3 crust options and 5 topping options. This can be shown visually like this |dw:1368169501222:dw| So the amount of combinations you could have are 3 * 5 because out of the three crusts you can have 5 for the first option 5 for the second and 5 for the third 5 + 5 + 5
