You have two expressions that can yield undefined results depending on hte value of x. One is the expression you are taking the log of. The other one is the exopression iside the square root sign. What real numbers can you take the log of? What real numbers can you take a square root of?

can u plse solve it and tell me what should be the solution

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The log function is only defined for nubers greater than zero. A square root can only be taken of numbers zero or greater. This gives you two inequalities. x^2 - 16 > 0 and 5 - x >= 0 Now you need to solve both inequqalities.
