OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is it called when an organisms eat other organisms to obtain energy?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

hetero = other trophs = "feeding" (more or less)

OpenStudy (nathan917):

Heterotrophic. This includes fungi, animals and many protists. These organisms consume organic matter that is or once was part of another organism. Autotrophic organisms can use an inorganic energy source for sustenance, such as plants.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they're right !!

OpenStudy (xanthe):

Food chain

OpenStudy (agreene):

The actual act of "eating" another organism for food procurement depends on the type of "eating" you're referring to... but phagocytosis and mastication->digestion are the most common in the biota.
