Compare and contrast nuclear DNA with mitochondrial DNA. Which one would you want to use in a criminal investigation if you had the choice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nuclear DNA, mitochondrial DNA is unstable and mutates too easily

Thanks!

Nope, mitochondrial DNA. Nuclear DNA is contained within a nucleus of a eukaryotic organism, while mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is located in organelles called mitochondria. The mutation rate of mtDNA doesn't have anything to do with analyzing it. As it turns out, mtDNA is significantly easier to analyze (especially when the DNA sample is very limited). And if that's not enough...here's the FBI's mtDNA web page: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/lab/biometric-analysis/mtdna
