NeeD HElp MEDals!!!!!

Find the equation of the line in slope intercept form passing through the point (1,-3) Perpendicular to the line y = 1/2 x+4

hartnn (hartnn):

can you first find the slope of y = 1/2 x+4 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

hartnn (hartnn):

so, what is the slope of that line ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/2

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, now slope of perpendicular line is negative reciprocal, so if m = -4, slope of perpendicular line will be +1/4 we have here, m= 1/2, slope of perpendicular line will be ... ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dang.. im lost : /

hartnn (hartnn):

lost ? which part did you not get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the the perpendicular line is 1,-3 id understand how M= -4 and that changes the perpendicular line to +1/4

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, so for 1/2, first do reciprocal it will be 2 , right ? now just add a minus sign, ----> -2 so slope of perpendicular lin = -2 got it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/-2

hartnn (hartnn):

whats 1/-2 ?? anyways, we have slope of perpendicular line as m=-2 point is 1,-3 ----> x1 = 1, y1 =-3 so, use the form y-y1 = m (x-x1) to get your equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the anwer?

hartnn (hartnn):

isn't it better if you can figure out the answer on your own ? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whats the answer becassue i have a simailar wuestion and its u helping me to see if am corrcect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait so do I just find the slop between the two points and thats it right

hartnn (hartnn):

so, even you try to understand and ask me any doubts if you have. we already got the slope, right? m=-2 didn't you get that part ? now we just use slope and point to get the equation of line.....

hartnn (hartnn):

m=-2 point is 1,-3 ----> x1 = 1, y1 =-3 so, use the form y-y1 = m (x-x1) to get your equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

screw u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so just set up my eqaution alright hang on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wtf .....
