Do you think World War 2 was a continuous of World war 1? I dont think so. But what do you guys think? & Why?
Hmm...I would need a bit to think on that one
it depends on how you look at the concept of war.. you can say, in a way, that world war 1 was not only between 1914-1918, but started the moment each superpower (at that time britain, france, germany, and the usa) became colonial superpowers, and started occupying territories in the world. they knew that at some moment there wont be anywhere left to conquer, and so war was inevitable - so you can call that stage the "cold war" period before the first world war. this is the deterministic way of thought. on the other hand, you can look at each war as an event on its own, with its own motives and own reasons. thats the indeterministic way of thought. i personally agree with the first choice. everything occurs because of past events, nothing in history is independent. ww2 could not start if the german nation would not have given hitler 40 percent of the voices in the election. the chose him because he played on their hearts-strings. he played on them because they were depressed for losing the war, the horrible economy caused by the war, the democracy that they never wanted and that was forced on them. so, without the first world war, the second could not have happened.
In some ways it was. The harsh penalties dealt to Germany over war reparations, limits on its military, and the virtual gutting of its navy left its people disillusioned and angry for a long time. Germany went from being a world superpower to a destitute, poor man of Europe in the space of a few years. Remember, before the war, Germany was a mighty engine of innovation and invention. World renowned scientists, writers, philosophers, and industry made them a powerhouse. Afterward, they were a shattered nation. The economy was always on thin ice after the war. The Weimar Republic did what it could to stabilize things, though it all came crashing down in the Depression. A lot of the frustrations borne out of WW1 roiled back into view paving the way for Hitler and the Nazis to seize power. A lot of angry and desperate people liked what they said about restoring the pride of the nation and fixing its problems.
