Parth (parthkohli):

Will OS provide a reference for me when I apply for MIT?

hero (hero):

I don't see why they wouldn't. Maybe you should ask Preetha personally.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but it won't carry any merit

hero (hero):

You don't know that for sure. OS already has connections with MIT.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is connected with MIT OCW, not the university as a whole

hero (hero):

I suppose you know all of Preetha's colleagues.

hero (hero):

I think you're underestimating the amount of pull Preetha has. You should double-check to see who is helping fund this site.

hero (hero):

Also remember that more than one person can give a recommendation. There are several admin out there who probably wouldn't mind backing Parth. And they have pretty good credentials.

hero (hero):

If you think MIT don't know who or what OS is, you're mistaken.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, I am pretty sure MIT admission office wouldn't even know of this site

hero (hero):

Wow bro, you're such a negative thinker. You should talk to somebody about that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plus getting recommendation from a site wouldn't give you much of an advantages. Much better he gets it from his school and teacher

hero (hero):

And of course he will...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope

hero (hero):

Is "no, nope, and don't" your response to every inquiry?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to ones such as yours, yes

hero (hero):

OMG bro...stop it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

stop what? utilizing logic?

hero (hero):

No disrespect bro, but you come off as a mad hater.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he is better off getting recommendation from his own school/teacher which is based on both common sense and what MIT itself says http://mitadmissions.org/apply/freshman/recommendations Recommendation from this site wouldn't help is all I am saying; Just a friendly advice to him; Still do not understand why you feel the need to obtrude

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

Asking for a reference from OPENSTUDY is like asking for a reference from OPENCOURSEWARE. A reference is a type of document that involves someone who knows your background on a work or academic level, and also a personal level. If references were that easy, especially asking for it for a reputable school, then I believe everyone would do it. This has nothing to do with negativity or what not.

Parth (parthkohli):

Haha, thanks for the help :-)

OpenStudy (preetha):

Parth, I will write you a letter for MIT! It will be from me, as CEO of OpenStudy.

Parth (parthkohli):

@Preetha Thanks!

mathslover (mathslover):

@Preetha , will it be for everyone or just for distinguished members?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well im a first year grad student at harvard , studying computer science 1. MIT does know about this FYI and admission departement has nothing to do with OS. 2. Indeed a letter of recommendation from preetha CAN put a heavy weight on resume and profile docs but CANNOT guarantee admission, it is highly competitive. 3. it depends on your academic background and SAT score+ personal interview. 4. after this you if you get through, then HAHAHAHAHAHA be ready to work your A off and forget the word 'sleep' there is no such word and be ready to face, words like frustration , aggravation and annoyed. 5. this is all hope that helps you out @parthkohli ..good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and it is very nice of @preetha to help you :) good luck fella

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*department **if you sorry for mistakes imma kinda sleepy
