Two birds sit at the top of two different trees 17.8 feet away from one another. The distance between the first bird and a bird watcher on the ground is 37.4 feet. What is the angle measure, or angle of depression, between this bird and the bird watcher?

25.5° 64.5° 28.4° 61.6°

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 hey can you help me with this i think it is either 28.4 or 61.6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@qweqwe123123123123111 do you think its 28.4 or 61.6?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

we need to find angle x, so lets go to left bird corner, and look at the triangle :- adjacent side = 17.8 hypotenuse = 37.4

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

what trig ratio can we use ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ok no probs. here it is :- cos = adjacent / hypotenuse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 are my guesses right though?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes, one of them is right.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

but guessing is very very bad huh when we can solve them directly. solving is the King's way. lets solve it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 okay, im fine with solving it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 just dont know how

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yea we must use calculator. cos(x) = adjacent /hyp = 17.8/37.4 x = acos(17.8/37.4)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

do you knw how to do acos in your calculator ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

if not, you can type it in wolfram. like below :- http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=acos%2817.8%2F37.4%29

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 no i dont, so do i just use that link?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes click the link. you can use wolfram as your online calculator

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

have a look u wil understand easily

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 all that did was confuse me

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ok sorry about that. you wont be able to do these without knowing how to use calculator.
