use a magnet to collect all the iron filings in the mixture
you are now left with a mixture of sand and water....
Secondly:
add water to the mixture (of sand and salt) and filter...
the salt dissolves in the water but the sand particles get trapped in the filter paper...
Thirdly:
evaporate the salt solution...
the water escapes and leaves the salt behinf..
