is 0.75 irrational?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

can you write 0.75 as a fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk -___- im really bad in math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that means it is rational not irrational

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

0.75 = 75/100 since the 5 is in the hundredths place reduce this to get 3/4 So because 0.75 = 3/4, this means that 0.75 can be written as a fraction and it's a rational number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks both of you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not a problem :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

something like 3.14159.... (which is pi) cannot be written as a fraction so pi is irrational

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so what he's saying is any number that can be turned into a fraction is a rational number
