Identify the excluded value of the following functions. f(x) = 5 -- x 3 y =----- x + 4 Please help!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

since you cannot divide by zero, the x in f(x) = 5/x cannot be zero so x = 0 is the excluded value in f(x)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how about in 3/(x+4), what's the excluded value here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-4?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct, that makes the denominator zero, so you have to exclude it

Okay, thanks. (:
