OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

NEW VERSION OF THE UNOFFICIAL OPENSTUDY APP COMING OUT IN TWO DAYS **************************************************** I'd love to make this one the very best one out there, so please give some feedback about my current version ( http://www.dumbsearch.com/tuosa ) :) I've heard some bug reports from you guys, so I'd love if you could post them here so I could fix 'em all :) If you don't know already, The Unofficial OpenStudy App (TUOSA) (in a nutshell) is a Chrome extension that extends and enhances the current functionality of OpenStudy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\huge \prod_{n=0}^\infty \text { like,}\]

thomaster (thomaster):

You probably noticed but when you enter sub-sections, the search bar gets pushed away, so it will appear under the section bar.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

you probably know that when you receive a notice of a post reported as offensive and try to view that post that it usually won't come up, frequently results in loss of connection, and almost always requires you to close and reopen OS

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

oooh ! well this is mod specific, right ? @mertsj Is it specific to the app... or does it happen on OpenStudy without it ?

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

@thomaster Thanks for pointing it out! :) Will take in notice :)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Thanks, @Jonask :)

mathslover (mathslover):

Please add the print answer option, like I can print a particular answer given by a user.

mathslover (mathslover):

(It can be printed in the form of pdf too... - will be great)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Also, when using the draw and equation function, sometimes you get in a mode where it just moves the canvass around. The only way to get out of it is to refresh the page and then you lose everything. It is a + cursor. Don't know how to get rid of it. It seems to show up for no apparent reason.

mathslover (mathslover):

Yep ^

thomaster (thomaster):

@mertsj I always press the escape butten when that happens, works for me :)

thomaster (thomaster):

Here is a screenshot of what happens when you switch section. I Went from \(\LaTeX\) to chemistry. This does not always occur by the way. Another buf is that sometimes you cannot click on another subject when hovering the section scrolldown menu.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

@thomaster Thanks. I thought I had tried every button to get out of that mode but maybe not. I will try esc.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Thanks guys! :) This is awesome! So much feedback for features... and bug fixes! :) I'm not sure if some of these bugs only happen when you have the app installed or not, so please tell me if you can which bug is specific to the app :)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Print answer feature will be a very bad idea .It will double the amount of cheating done in school assignments/homeworks.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

In which way ? @AravindG

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Students might take direct printouts of someone's long answer and submit it .Openstudy is for providing help on questions and not for providing worked out material .The entire system where we make someone understand the answer will be defeated if the asker is able to print the answer and use it .

thomaster (thomaster):

It's kinda the same as copying and pasting in word and then print it. I don't see the point in printing an answer anyway, it's about understanding a problem and learning things. You can't print that.

mathslover (mathslover):

Oh @AravindG , that does not happen always. Why always negative side? Just think, if we want to check the work with our teacher done by one of the friends, then we can print easily, we want to study deeply on that, then print out will be better choice, we want to keep record of that , it will also be good....

OpenStudy (aravindg):

I do not always speak the negative side. .Look at @Thosmaster's reply above "it's about understanding a problem and learning things. You can't print that." Besides on the early days of Openstudy I saw something similar suggested and it was let down by the admins right away .It was my duty to point out the reasons here again.

mathslover (mathslover):

Printing does not mean only to print as a hard copy it can also be to print in the form of PDF . and @thomaster , the LaTeX codes can not be copied in to the word directly. It will be a lot easier for us if we get a function of print. Wolframalpha also has he function of "downloading the solution" , I know they don't care how it is used, but in some cases the printing is needed. @AravindG There are many times when we forget the questions asked by us and suppose we want to keep it with us and take it to somewhere, the printing will help. I do think that it will be a good idea for printing the solution / para.

mathslover (mathslover):

And I support your views too, that can be used in a negative way too. But I just thought for a beneficial reason of printing. :)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Only for a few .Majority of our recent users come here to get their work done by others .All of us are having a hard time moving them in the right direction .A print feature will be straight blow.to us.

mathslover (mathslover):

Agreed. The present situation might be not suitable for the print feature :)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Happy to see that you agree .In the present condition if a student tries to get an answer copied from here he/she has to write it down in their book .Atleast while doing that they will go through the working once. Besides OS always is unique in the sense that it guides the students instead of giving worked out long answers .In the ideal case a post will only have interactions between the asker and the helper .The final working always rests with the asker .

mathslover (mathslover):

Excellently said @AravindG :) great.

mathslover (mathslover):

Waiting for the new app @dumbsearch2 :)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I notice the perpendicular line cursor still shows up and cannot be removed without reloading the page and after that closing and reopening the app

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

What "perpendicular line cursor"? where? @Mertsj

mathslover (mathslover):

@dumbsearch2 when should we expect for the app to be released?

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

:( IDK. I'm discouraged. Maybe sometime next week ?

mathslover (mathslover):

Oh... k
