Solve the inequality 4x + 5 < 2x − 11 x > 8 x > −8 x < 8 x < −8 I need help with the explaining of how this works too . . .

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

its basically the same as solving regular equations with an equals sign in the middle instead of an inequality

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

4x+5 < 2x -11 add 11 to both sides

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

4x+16 < 2x

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

subtract 4x from both sides to get x alone

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

16 < -2x

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

divide by -2 to get x alone and simplified to get -8 < x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh...ok thanks for explaining this! :D I really get lost with this since I barely went over this with a teacher I used to have...

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

your welcome :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So its x> -8?

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

ohh my bad yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol no problem thanks for th

OpenStudy (anonymous):

elp :D

OpenStudy (ineedhelplol):

when you divide by a negative you flip the inequality symbol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no prob thanks for the help*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :o thanks :D
