hint : (a-b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2
Still confused
use the formula above, in this case a=q and b=1 so, (q-1)^2 = q^2 - 2(q)(1) + 1^2 = ....
now, u can simplify it is ...
Is it almost like a FOIL? Im still a little confused about my answer but I understand what you're saying.

which part make u confused, just simplify parts : 2(q)(1) = 2q and 1^2 = 1 * 1 = 1
