Choose the best translation of the following sentence. I am not as tall as she is. A. No soy tan alta como ella. B. No soy menos alta que ella. ***I'm not too sure on this one. Please explain! Thank you! :)
So, we're learning how to compare two things, in Spanish. Let me go over the entire lesson. It's very short and simple. ~~~~~~~~~ First off, memorize these three word pairs: 1. Más + que 2. Menos + que 3. Tan + como ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay got it? Now, this is how we compare two things, in Spanish: 1. Pick the correct word pair. 2. Put the adjective IN BETWEEN those two words. ~~~~~~~~~ Let's pretend I want to say...."I am taller than you." I would say.... "Yo soy más alto que tú." ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Let's pretend I want to say...."I am bigger than you." "Yo soy más grande que tú." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You see how the adjective always goes in between the two words, in the word pair? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We use the first word pair (más + que) whenever we want to say that something is MORE THAN something. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We use the second word pair (menos +que) whenever we want to say that something is LESS THAN something. Let's pretend I want to say..."I am less intelligent than you." I would say...."Yo soy menos inteligente que tú." You see? The adjective, again, goes in between the two words, in the word pair that we chose. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now, lastly, the third word pair (tan + como) is used whenever we want to say that something is JUST THE SAME as something. Let's pretend I want to say...."I am as tall as you." I would say...."Yo soy tan alto como tú." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Easy yes? Again, just memorize these three word pairs: 1. más + que (more than) 2. menos + que (less than) 3. tan + como (same as) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now, let's go back to your original question. How would we say...."I am not as tall as her"? HINT:: It's almost the same as saying "I am as tall as her." The only difference is that we need to start the sentence with the word "no."
Okay, awesome! So, would it be this A? No soy tan alta como ella. ?? Because it is using tan+como ? :)
Yes. Buen trabajo.
