simplifying algebra expressions means to perform all operations possible. here you can combine "like terms". 5x - 3x + 2y + y (5 - 3)x + (2+1) y 2x + 3y. Try thinking of x as apples and y as oranges. 5 apples + 2 oranges - 3 apples + one orange = (5-3) apples + (2 + 1) orange 2 apples + 3 oranges. or algebraically 2x + 3y.
