whats is a sub total

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It refers to a total of a group rather than the overall total. Total by division would be sub-total but the total of all divisions would be the grand total. As an example, On a bank deposit slip you list the amounts for the deposit, then Subtotal those. Next you deduct cash received. Then what is left is the Total Deposit Amounts $33.95 + $10.00 + 5.55 Sub Total = $49.50 Less Cash Received = $25.00 Total Deposit = $24.50 Another example is if you have several items on a dining ticket, they are subtotalled. Then taxes and possibly a gratuity are added, which becomes the total.
