OpenStudy (texaschic101):
-3x + 5y = 19 5x - 5y = - 5 --------------add when you add them, you will see that the 5y's cancel each other out. Leaving you with 2x = 14. Divide both sides by 2 and you will find x. Once x is found, sub it back into either of the equations to find y.
