does anyone have any good advice to learn how to play by ear
It's kind of just a talent you are boring with. Maybe if you practice for years and years and years and years AND YEARS you can. But i doubt it cuz its like a gift from God.
You can definitely develop the ability. Most people develop it as children because your brain is more able to absorb it or they are born with it. When you're older, it's much more difficult but I think still possible. I would say start by playing simples melodies from memory on the piano and see if they match the real melodies.
Playing by ear is MUCH easier if you memorize all of the major scales. I can play by ear, and that's how I develop my ability to do it. :)
It definitely is an in-born talent but can also be honed and achieved through hardwork. It depends on one's dedication and amount of time spent on ear and music training to be able to play anything by just hearing it. Taking ear-training classes specifically would greatly help!
http://www.musictheory.net/ This website has great practice programs You can listen to and identify notes, and it'll get you in the habit of recognizing what you're hearing. Hope it helps.
Hey, Is'n that impossible; If you know how to play any instrument, you will just need to get some tuning reference easy to remember, like a sound memory. The best method is one like this program helps a lot! : "Earope" ... then in some time with trying to find the tune of every sound around (footsteps, telephone ring, etc), you will get some tunes. Then the chord tune comes naturally... I believe that perception is just a question of tune your references. Try on!
