The area of a window is 18ft2.<-(square feet) the length of the window is two times the width of the window. What are the dimensions of the window?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Knowing that the area is equal to length x width, and only the area known, you can state the equation 18 = (2x) x (x), where 'x' is the width and '2x' is the length. Simplifying the equation you get 18 = 2x^2 To get the value of x you must divide 18 by 2 and find the square root.

Getting the value of x = 3, the dimensions must be 3 by 6.
