Question

Its funny how some users ask a question, so you go and help, but they do not collaborate with you and do not respond -.- HOW DO THEY EXPECT TO GET HELP IF ALL THEY WANT IS FOR YOU TO DO ALL THE WORK AND JUST GIVE THEM THE ANSWER???

Yeah, its like your helping them, and they are there, but they dont respond AT ALL! Its like they are just waiting for the ANSWER(S)!!!

i always try to test whether they're responsive by giving just a little help, so i don't waste my time with a long and lovely explanation that they may never see for having wandered off or that they just copy down and never say thank you or give a medal or whatever.

usually, i always try to ask a question to get them engaged in learning, and if they don't respond to my first question (such as: if you had to eliminate two of the 4 multiple choice responses which ones would you pick? - - or something content specific if that's appropriate) then i don't go any further.

of course, sometimes i'll do this and they don't respond (which is fine, cuz i'm done). . . but then someone will come in and just give the answers - which drives me crazy. (since i'm a mod, i usually don't take kindly to that :)

one thing i do, is if i see that someone has given an answer, but the questioner never responded, i will at least give the person a medal who did the work of answering.

yah! i agree... If they don't answer then there is no point of continuing with them. They only usually just wait for the answer. >,<

it's nice for me, bc/ if i get a notification that someone else has replied in the thread, i check it - - and as a mod i can take action. of course ANYONE can tag or PM me (or other mods) and alert me to a question where someone is just giving answers and i'll head on over and suspend (or at least warn) them.

AravindG stole my post! I was just going to say exactly the same concept in my own words!

I usually start with something like, "How is this giving you trouble" and then I wait. Someone comes in and answer bombs. If I am lucky, they do so with a detailed answer that at least shows the process. Many times it is just, "42!" etc.

it's the most annoying thing to see your attempt on explaining something getting destroyed by someone giving the final answer without any explanation AND THEY'LL GET ALL THE CREDIT AND REWARD

credit and reward are not based on medal count or fan count; they are based on how the active and supportive users on OS see your ability and resolve :)

I'm with all of you guys! I always try to respond to people that took the time to even answer my questions in some way because I don't like it when I don't get anything for responding to a question.

The ones i hate are when i would post a math question and clearly state "DO NOT TELL ME THE ANSWER i want to understand how to do this so please show me how" and i still get only answers.
