@ajprincess :) :) :)
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
x - 2 < 3
What do u get when u solve this for x?
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
@charlieberzak
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i know im here :) im thinking

k:) take ur time:)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
when u solve for x meaning?? ummm what is x?
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
x<?
i want u to find the value that fits in the place of ?.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x will be anything below 4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think...

x-2<3
to solve for x u have to isolate x.
x-2+2<3+2
x+0<3+2
x<5
getting this?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
not really :/ to the part x-2+2<3+2 a little
then after that I dont get why x+0
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
hmm. to isolate x u have to remove anything that is joining to it. in this case u can see that 2 has been subtracted from x. to remove it u have to add 2.
-2+2=0
x+0=0
x-2+2=x+0=x.
getting it? or am I confusing u again?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
haha i guess im getting it, very slowly though...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ohhhh i get it, if you have to remove something from x then u change the symbol, right?
so if its x - 2 u have to + 2 to -2????
math is weird :/

OpenStudy (ajprincess):
yup.
4x. hw will u remove the 4.
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
u jst have to perform the opposite operation to remove.
opposite of addition is subtraction
opposite of multiplication is division
OpenStudy (anonymous):
well 4x is multiplication right? so then it would division :) YAY
OpenStudy (anonymous):
nailed it!
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
yup:) very good:)

haha
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so 4 divided by 4 is 0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i mean 1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
lol
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
yup it is 1:)

x + 2 > -2
ready to solve this for x?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hmmmm okay
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
give it a try then:)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so take away +2... change it into a - ummm 2 - 2 = 0?
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
yes right:)
so u have x on one side. hw abt the other side of the inequalty?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
well i do the same? or do i add the 0 to it?
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
do the same.
if u add a number to one side u do the same to the other side
OpenStudy (anonymous):
well then it would be -2 + 2?
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
nope:(
to remove +2 from x u subtracted 2. so u have to do the same to the other side
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ohh okay then so -2 -2?

-4 then
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
yup:)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
okay then now what
OpenStudy (ajprincess):
so u have two inequalities . x<5 and x>-4. try to draw the graph for both of them in the same numberline
