When the US Supreme court decides a case: the chief justice writes the majority opinion if he or she was in the majority the chief justice writes the dissenting opinion if he or she was in the majority the us supreme court justices select an associate justice to write the minority and majority opinions the us supreme cort justices select two associate justices to write the minority and majority opinions
