The range of the tides is affected by the relative positions of the sun and the moon. During the new moon and full moon, the highest high tides and the lowest low tides occur. During the first and third quarters of the lunar month, the lowest high tides and the highest low tides occur. Throughout the month, the tidal range gradually increases and decreases between the minimum and maximum values of the range. - Sketch a graph of a tidal range as a function of time, showing what you think the shape of a tidal cycle might look like for one month. On your graph, indicate where you think each....

phase of the moon occurs. @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

able to get anywhere?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well my first question is what is the highest high tides and the lowest low tides

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's something that you'll have to look up in a chart, but unfortunately tides vary all over the world

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so it will depend on which chart you look at (and which location you look at)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it goes with my last question you just helped me with..

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i know

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh you mean with that same exact data set?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think so.. its all with the same paper sheet

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

true, but it might be referring to more data out in the real world, idk

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i think the main idea to get from this is just the overall shape of the graph

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you don't need to be too detailed here, just get the basics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the basics of what? im totally confused here

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you were to draw a graph that had all the tide data on it, what would it look like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure thats why i'm asking because i am confused

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hint: this graph looks like an ocean wave

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

because it goes up and down..up and down...up and down...to reflect all the tide changes over time

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

something like this |dw:1368572485504:dw|
