Find the value of v in each equation. v=log(10)1000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are being asked to solve \[10^y=100\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, 10^y=1000, but basically yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still don't understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

log base ten asks what power 10 must be raised to in order to get a number. Log(10) of 10, for example, is one. One simple way to do logs in base ten is to count the place of the highest-place digit. The log base 10 will always be between that number of places and one more, depending on the number itself: 525 has a higher log than 216, but both are between two and three.

Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you got 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

You got it!
