How many units apart are the points (8, 11) and (-1, -1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the distance formula:\[d = \sqrt{(x _{2} - x _{1})^{2} + (y _{2} - y _{1})^{2}}\]Here, x2 = 8 y2 = 11 x1 = -1 y1 = -1 Just substitute and simplify. Remember, when you subtract a negative number, it's the same as adding a positive number. Big hint: You will get an integer for your answer.
