under which conditions do you use
\[K_c=\frac{ [H^+][X^-] }{ [HX] }\] or \[K_c=\frac{ [H^+]^2 }{ [HX] }\]

if [H+]=[X-]

then you can simply write it as x^2

but you can't say that it's [H+]^2, because the H+ conc is not doubled
