PLEASE HELP A tunnel is in the shape of a parabola. The maximum height is 16 m and it is 16 m wide at the base as shown below. What is the vertical clearance 7 m from the edge of the tunnel?
@KingGeorge my computer won't let me see your last comment!
The whole thing or just part of it?
You got up to 10.9 but that's not the final answer
15.4 m 0.3 m 15.7 m 0.6 m
those are the answer choices
Uhhh... One moment.
I'm pretty sure I know which of those it wants (only because I made a mistake that got me one of those), but I am very positive that none of them are actually correct.
eeeeek so which one are you thinking?
15.7 Even though the actual quadratic equation is \(-x^2/16\), they used the equation \(-x^2/16^2\). If you used this (incorrect!) equation, you get 15.7
Okay I'll go with that! Thank you(: Are you good with orthogonal and parallel vectors? because I'm stuck on my last question
It depends on the question, but I would hope I could handle it.
u = <7, -4>, v = <-28, 16>
orthogonal, parallel, or neither
I think this is a little easier than you think it might be. Two vectors \(\vec{u},\vec{v}\) are parallel if there is some real number \(n\) such that \(n\vec{u}=\vec{v}\). Two vectors \(<a,b>\) and \(<c,d>\) are perpendicular if \(ac+bd=0\). Using that information, what do you think the correct solution would be?
parallel?
Right! And why?

You're welcome =D
