A group of students is gathering signatures on a petition to build a new skate park in Citizen City. Which of the following would most likely get more people to sign the petition? We would like the city to pay for something that a group of city kids values rather than something older people value. We are hoping the city will increase taxes on local businesses to pay for the creation of a new skate park. The city has done so much for adults that we think it's about time they did something for us. We are asking the city to invest in its youth by creating an area that will give kids an outlet for positive activities.

People who would vote to allow a new shopping mall to be built in their area would best support their decisions with which of the following statements? A mall would require large tracts of land for parking lots. Small retail businesses in the area will increase their customer base. A mall would be able to provide lower prices to shoppers. Unused land will find a new purpose with creation of a mall.

You actually might get a better range of responses if you posted this in the English or the Writing groups. This question has more to do with "how" you are phrasing your answer than history, but I can help tip you in a positive direction. With the petition question, it's a matter of saying something that sounds good to everyone than in singling anyone out. For example, I definitely wouldn't go with the first answer -- We would like the city to pay for something that a group of city kids values rather than something older people value. That's just not going to win any fans. It just sounds greedy, for one, and uses agism as an argument. It's a terrible way to ask help from the city. With that in mind, read over the other answers and see how they sound to you.
