how does movement in the rib cage change air pressure in the chest cavity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When the rib cage expands, it increases the volume of the chest cavity. By fundamental gas laws, this decreases the pressure, and encourages air to flow in. Likewise, when the rib cage is compressed, the volume decreases and the pressure rises, encouraging air to be expelled from the lungs.
