The range of the tides is affected by the relative positions of the sun and the moon. During the new moon and full moon, the highest high tides and the lowest low tides occur. During the first and third quarters of the lunar month, the lowest high tides and highest low tides occur. Throughout the month, the tidal range gradually increases and decreases between the minimum and maximum values of the range. • Sketch a graph of a tidal range as a function of time, showing what you think the shape of a tidal cycle might look like for one month.

On your graph, indicate where you think each phase of the moon occurs

@Mertsj Could you help me out?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I really don't know anything about this. Sorry

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Your t value will relate to the position of the moon. Then, based on the position of the moon, do min/max points, and a few between. Finally, connect the dots into a smooth curve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is a t value? @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Time, typically. Your time relates to the position of the moon.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that gonna be like on the x-axis?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes. And you could lable it like you would a periodic function, not with numbers, but with things like new moon, full moon, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, ok that makes a lot more sence, thanks :)
