The table shows the annual consumption of cheese per person in the United States for selected years in the 20th century. Let x = number of years since 1900, and y = pounds per person. What cubic model best fits this data? Year Pounds Consumed 1902 1.959 1924 6.373 1946 7.29 1982 15.817 A. y = 0.00989x3 - 0.0000872x2 + 1.192x + 0.403 B. y = -0.0000872x3 + 0.00989x2 - 0.403x - 1.192 C. y = -0.0000872x3 - 0.00989x2 - 0.403x + 1.192 D. y = 0.0000872x3 - 0.00989x2 + 0.403x + 1.192

x is the no. of years since 1900. so in 1902, x = 2 so substitute that in all and see which one gives the pound listed in the table corresponding to 1902

OpenStudy (rajee_sam):

Similarly for other years

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did A , B and both are wrong

OpenStudy (rajee_sam):

if 2 works for all then try the next year

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u do D and I will do C so we know which one is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A,B,C are wrong so it must be D

OpenStudy (rajee_sam):

yes it is

OpenStudy (rajee_sam):

OK Good night I have to go and sleep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh is that all we were doing? Plugging in and seeing if it works? xD I blew this problem way out of proportion...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm out for the night as well, sorry I missed this.
