The primary colors are yellow, blue, and red. Do the primary colors make up more or less than half the total number of candies? Add up the ones on each side (you've already got primary colors on the right, non-primary colors on the left) and see which is more than half. Because it's just 1/2 that you're dealing with, if one side has more it has more than 1/2, but if you had a trickier fraction you would have to try to get your fraction and that fraction to share a denominator if you wanted to be absolutely certain of which was larger.
