1.) Do you think trusts and monopolies are bad? Explain your answer. 2.)Was the Sherman Antitrust Act effective? Explain.
I think monopolies are bad. Let's use You as an example. Say you have a brand that involved selling Orange Soda. You become so popular that the other companies are failing. You buy brands like Crush, and Sunkist out, and now there are no more brands to compete! YOU now control the prices. Since the demand is high, you can make the prices as high as you want because you own the product. Does that make sense to you? If not just comment back. As for the second one, the Sherman Antitrust Act yes and no. For some companies, they didn't enforce it enough. The main goal of the Sherman Antitrust Act was to protect the consumer. And in a way they did that, but in a way they didn't .
The Sherman antitrust act was not effective as it was actually used to break up labor unions. Trusts and monopolies can be bad because if one company controls one element of the economy and they crash or go bankrupt, other companies start to fail and ou end up with a depression. That's why the Sherman antiust act was created. It was largely ineffective and led to the Clayton antitrust act
