Help? How did the land gained during the French and Indian war contribute to tensions between colonists and Britain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You appear to be asking why winning the land lead to tensions. Following the French and Indian War (AKA War of Austrian Succession and Seven Years War) England gained New France. This was the area drained by the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. The French had only a few outposts in the vast land. They were traders and had good relations with the tribes. The 13 colonies were along the coast but the grants and charters for them theoretically extended to the Pacific. The war over and the French gone, many wanted to move West into the new lands. England was deeply in debt from the war and didn't want to fight yet another war with the tribes. On one hand the Colonists were moving West and the British were trying to stop them. Frankly stopping them wasn't possible. The Proclamation of 1763 forbid western movement. To the colonists it was yet another example of how the British didn't understand the colonies and how they were trying to control them.
