A 12-foot slide is attached to a swing set. The slide makes a 65º angle with the swing set. Which answer most closely represents the height of the top of the slide?

OpenStudy (jack1):

so do you understand the acronym SOH CAH TOA?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (jack1):

ok, so which is your unknown that you're trying to find: Opposite, Adjacent or Hypotenuse?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

opposite

OpenStudy (jack1):

no, you're looking for the height, so that would be the side that is adjacent to the angle

OpenStudy (jack1):

from the picture, the side oppisite the angle isn't marked, and the side adjacent is x

OpenStudy (jack1):

now, to work out which formula to use, you need to know what you have. so you want to find Adjacent side length do you have Oppisite side length or Hypotenuse side length (from picture)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it thx

OpenStudy (jack1):

ok so you have hypotenuse and want to find adjacent, so use CAH cos (angle) = adjacent / hypotenuse cos (65) = adjacent / 12 12 x cos 65 = adjacent side length you good from here...?
