Help please. There are many ropes keeping a hot air balloon from floating away before a balloon race. One of these ropes is fixed to the ground at a 45° angle. Another is fixed to the ground at a 30° angle. If the hot air balloon is 18 feet off the ground, what is the distance between the ground directly underneath the balloon and the second rope rounded to the nearest hundredth of a foot? Type the numeric answer only in the box below. Numerical Answers Expected!
I did this and got 40.98 but it wasn't correct.
which ratio you took
you need to find x, the entire horizontal distance
ok I am trying to remember how I got the answer.
take ur time :)
if it doesnt make sense, we can work it from scratch
Word problems always confuse me for some reason.
they confuse everyone initially.. once you do few of them, u wil enjoy...

we need to find the x
imagine this - goto the rope2 corner, and look at the balloon
ok
your opposite side wud be 18
your adjacent side wud be x
right ?
yes
you have opposite, adjacent. tell me what ratio we can use ?
would it be 18/x
