While driving your rental car on your trip to Europe, you find that you are getting 12.4 kilometers per liter of gasoline. What does this correspond to in miles per gallon? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[12.4\times0.6214\] \[7.705\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did you get the 0.6214 from?

OpenStudy (jkristia):

how many km / mile ? (1.6km / mile) how many liter / gallon ? (3.8liter / gallon)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm confused

OpenStudy (jkristia):

so, 12.4km / l -> 12.4 / 1.6 = 7.75 miles / liter -> 7.75 * 3.8 = 29.45 miles / gallon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did you divide 12.4 by 1.6 and multiple the result by 3.8?

OpenStudy (jkristia):

first I change from km to miles, hence divide by 1.6 (1.6 km to one mile) now I have miles per liter, so I change the liter to gallons by multiplying by 3.8 (3.8liter to a gallon)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shouldn't it be 7.70 instead of 7.75? because there's a way in my book they showed me to convert unit |dw:1368919666600:dw|
