Beta decay. Relative and absolute dating do not make sense; they are used to approx. the age of rocks and fossils. Alpha decay is when the nuclei emits an alpha particle and transform the element with a lower mass of 4 and a lower atomic number 2. Beta decay is where neutron can trasform into a proton and release an electron. This is generally used when the atom wants the optimal ratio of protons and neutrons.
