Why was Roosevelt concerned about the situation in 1930s in Europe?

Roosevelt at first, issued neutrality, but later on, he felt sympathy to the Allies. That's why he issued the Lend-Lease Act to Britain and did the Atlantic Charter with Winston Churchill. He was concerned about the toll on the countries, and the impacts that affected the countries economically, and socially.
