explain why any mixed number written as a fraction will be improper.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It will always be improper because a mixed fraction has a whole number, then parts of it. Sorry I'm not a great explainer, but I'll use an example. Say you have \[4 \frac{ 3 }{ 4 }\] You would have to multiply the denominator by the whole number (4 and 4) Then add 3 (The numerator ) Then you get \[\frac{ 19 }{4 }\] Does that make sense?
