When Gorbachev resigned, the power shifted over to Boris Yeltsin. Yeltsin promised to change the communist and limited economy to a free market economy. He also helped Gorbachev dissolve the Soviet Union in 1991. He wasn't that good of a guy though. Although we was the first Russian president and was elected by democratic means, his presidency was marked with corruption and conflict. Mainly though, Gorbachev's plan of glasnost & perestroika lead to dissolution and a more democratic society. I'll be right back. About 10 min?
